How do you protect your family time, your sanity, your joy during the Christmas holidays? If you're like us, you have about a dozen Christmas parties to go to! Please share how you protect your time.
Since we got married, our Saturday nights are "date night" and we make sure through the holidays not to replace date night with a holiday party. If we have a party come up for Saturday than we decide if that is a priority and if we need to move date night to Friday. That way we still have time for each other, one-on-one, and we don't lose sight of that relationship in the hustle and bustle.
We've actually never been invited to more than two parties during the entire months of December and January, ever. I guess I don't have that problem. It might be nice if I did though. I'd love to know what it's like to have friends and parties again!
I have NO stinkin' idea! Between work--we are short handed and LOTS of babies are due in December--parties, kids programs, shopping, wrapping, decorating, etc, etc, etc---I have no time for myself and little time for my family! No wonder why people get depressed at holiday time....I wish I could sneak away for about a week, lay on a beach and drink margaritas!!!!
Dress up and have fun! Oh, and Jay and I have decided that we want to go to a party that we can find the most hideous Christmas sweaters and wear them to the party. I want blinking lights on mine. Jay needs a Christmas ski sweater.
Ok, that last comment of mine was a bit ba-hum-bug-ish! Sorry! Things are just crazy right now but it is all my fault. I do have a history of depression and it is worsened at the holidays...so just ignore my mood and have fun!
We have learned to say NO this year. I hate it but I feel good about it this year.
We've realized that we weren't doing what was best for our kids and that includes bedtime so if it interferes with their bedtime and they have school the next day, we don't do it. We stay home and have our little family time. Even though I hate turning people down.
I am married to Andy Dietz, a retired pastor. We've been in the ministry for over 49 years. We have four grown children and 12 beautiful grandchildren and 3 adorable great-granddaughters! I write to share what God is teaching me (it's a continual work in progress!) and to open the window to my life and allow you to look in.

Oh that idea of Jay and Amy's is GREAT! What a fun party idea! I have no help on this one. It's just busy.

"I have strep throat or the flu" worked for me this weekend...maybe you could say "My sister is sick!" LOL
Sorry. Don't know why my comment posted 3 times!
