The Tabernacle Experience

I want to invite ALL of my friends to make a trek to Borger, TX April 18-26. First Baptist Church will be hosting a life-sized, interactive tabernacle of Moses that is traveling from city to city. It will be in Borger for a week. It will be open from 4-8 p.m. on weeknights and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 on Sunday afternoon. Andy & I will be tour guides on Thursday, April 23 from 4-8 p.m., if you want to come while we're there! We'd LOVE to see you!! And please spread the word----we've heard it's an incredible experience. By the way....the tabernacle company will be asking for a $5 contribution...just so you know. I'm sure it's to help pay for the cost of transportation and manpower. It takes 50 minutes to take the tour.
Check out all the details here.

Still Learning...

Wow! Tammy doesn't know what she started in my life!!! (Thank you, Tammy!) On Friday, I posted a blog entitled My List. On this list, I put the things I want to do before I die. Now I have to tell you that when I got through writing my first rendition of this list, I only had spiritual things on it. I felt the need to apologize at the end. And then I reminded myself that it's OK to have fun--so I went back and added the fun things in. Let me explain. When I started to do the list like Tammy had done, I realized I couldn't do it--I know myself too well. I know if I had it to do all over again, it probably wouldn't be much different. I'm a very focused person. I have a job to do. I don't play around. In fact, I don't really like to play. (There. I admitted it!) I make myself play and have fun. Is that crazy? In fact, that is the reason I surround myself with fun people. They keep me balanced. Most people would never know this because I do love to laugh! But for those who know me well, know this about me--or maybe no one really knows this, I don't know! I also don't like to spend money. Part of the reason for this is that I spent a lot of years mismanaging money, so I learned not to trust myself. And because I have a job to do, I don't like spending money on frivolous things--and especially on myself! I want to be a good steward.

So...I've been thinking on all of this for a long weekend. And God began to show me something. Remember this verse? "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." Matthew 6:19-20. I've tried all of my life to store my treasures in heaven. And if you know me, you know I am not materialistic. Things just don't mean a great deal to me. (This is where it gets exciting!) This weekend, I realized that storing up treasures in heaven isn't just bringing people to Christ, tithing and giving to needs, teaching Truth, discipling others, growing in Christ and all of those other godly, wonderful things.

I can spend money on things I've considered extravagant and even wasteful and be storing up treasures in heaven. If I'm investing in relationships, that's storing treasure in heaven. If I'm spending money to go on a date with my husband---that's storing treasure in heaven. If I'm spending money on a vacation with my family--that's storing treasure in heaven. If I'm spending money on going to see my kids & grandkids in Florida, that's storing treasure in heaven. And the reason this is storing treasure in heaven is because God designed these relationships. He wants us to invest in them. He has a plan for our marriages to be a picture of Christ & the church and for us, as parents, to be a picture of God to our children. These are eternal relationships. (Of course, they'll look different in heaven, but still eternal.) We're storing up treasures in heaven when we invest in these relationships. And when you invest, don't you do it wisely? You study how much and when to invest. Who knows who God has created your children to become? Isn't it wise for you to invest in them for God's kingdom purposes--with time and money? Do you know how God wants to use your husband in His kingdom plan? It would be wise to invest in him and your relationship with him. If we're not investing, we're saying that it's not important. And that's when things begin to crumble.
And where my treasure is---there's where my heart will be. I come in agreement with God for what is important---and eternal.

Polyble

My friend, Julie Simmons (Jody Simmons' wife for you Borger people), has started a new dictionary and I wanted to help her out with one new word. This dictionary is made up of those random word verifications when you post a comment on someone else's post. So here is a new word for you, Julie. And I encourage everyone to help add to her dictionary!

Polyble (pronunciation: po-le'-bla)
A possiblility, less than a probability. This may happen in your future.
Use in a sentence: I polyble may design an awesome background for my blog like Emily Sims has.

My list

Tammy Hubbart wrote a blog (right) that has inspired me. I absolutely loved reading her blog of what she would have done differently if given the chance. I tried to write my own list, but was stopped by my overanalytical nature. Do I wish I had done things differently? Absolutely. But instead of trying to figure out if my temperament would have allowed me to do things differently and how I could have, I just decided to make a different kind of list. Here is a list of what I want to do before I die:
  • Develop a deeper friendship with God--I want to know His secrets!
  • Accept differences in others more readily
  • Consistently honor and respect my husband
  • Enjoy my children and my grandchildren
  • Be more grateful
  • Give myself freedom to spend money on me. In fact, I'd get someone who understands fashion & comfort to help me buy a new wardrobe--and this is because I need it!
  • Laugh a lot
  • Make a budget and stick to it
  • Learn from others who have qualities I desire
  • See victories in lives I've prayed for
  • Get a great camera and learn how to use it well--without effort (ha!)
  • Invest in Israel
  • Not judge
  • Enjoy life!
  • Not stress over unreciprocal relationships
  • Take time out for me
  • Love deeply and unconditionally
  • Respond differently
  • Get a Mac laptop
  • Do what God has called me to do and not feel compelled to do all those other things
  • I want to see what a marriage in perfect unity can accomplish for the kingdom of God!
  • Share what God has taught me to young women
  • Live a guilt-free life
  • See lives changed at Living Water
  • Walk more
  • Embrace who I am
  • Give extravagantly
  • Learn how to submit
  • Go to Israel again and learn more about the places I'd visit
  • Write a book
  • Get a housekeeper!
God continually teaches me new things about myself. After I wrote out this list and studied it (my overanalytical nature...again) I realized it's hard for me to do things for me. I'm very demanding of myself. I wonder how different things would have been in my past if I'd been kinder to me.
But this is what I want to do before I die! In fact, I'm not even going to be too hard on myself. I've loved and laughed alot. If I don't accomplish the above list, I can tell you...I've loved my life. I'm so grateful God has blessed my life with my family---and you!

I tried "I" and the returns were even larger: 9,590,000,000. I think we like to talk about ourselves out here, don't you? Of course, we probably don't have old statistics to compare this to so we can see how much more self-centered we've become. (And of course, with this post alone, I've increased those numbers!! ha!)

The reason I started blogging about Prophecies & Headlines in the first place was because I suspect there are a lot of people like me. I was looking at the world through the lense of America. If you're like me, we've thought America was at the center of the world. The first time I realized we weren't was when I went on my first mission trip out of the country. I was astounded to realize the world wasn't holding it's breath to see what America was doing 24/7. Start listening to the news. You'll hear a lot about the Middle East and about Israel in particular.

Father, this morning I am praying for the peace of Jerusalem. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prophecies & Headlines--Day 1

I have to confess: I've had my head in the sand. But God has gently and graciously been pulling it out. Honestly, I don't know where I've been! And maybe it's not been so much in the sand, but I've certainly been concerned with a small part of the world instead of looking at the global picture. But recently, one book after another, one DVD after another have been placed into my hands about Bible prophecy and the last days. And now I'm stirred up. I also realize when you bring up the last days, it can kill a conversation faster than anything. Why is that? God told us we'd be blessed if we were watching for Jesus' return. And how do we watch without understanding? What do we look for?
That's why I'm blogging Prophecies & Headlines. I'm not a prophecy expert. But there are some people I really trust who have studied and researched this subject extensively. So I decided to spend 31 days talking about what is going on in our world and how it's beginning to look like things are preparing for Christ's return. So...I'll share a prophecy and then a headline that goes along with that prophecy so you can see how things are shaping up in our world. I hope it excites you like it has me. I believe Jesus could come any day, so I don't know how much of this we'll get to see. But Jesus told us, "So also when you see these signs, all taken together, coming to pass, you may know of a surety that He is near, at the very doors." Matthew 24:33

Prophecy:
Revelation 18 says that in the last days, Babylon will become a very rich city, full of luxuries that the rest of the world will lust after. And in the end, when Babylon falls, merchants will weep and mourn.

Headlines:
"Babylon's Future Written in its Ruins"
"U.S. Backs Babylon Heritage Project"
For nearly two thousand years, the city of Babylon, located about sixty kilometers south of Baghdad, has been all but extinct. This has led to speculation that the Babylon described in the book of Revelation actually refers to New York or Washington or Rome or Moscow. How could it refer to an Iraqi city that doesn't exist? Except that now it does.

The main thing I've been overwhelmed with as I read about prophecy is how much God loves Israel. I hope you'll pray with me every day for the peace of Jerusalem. "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure." Psalm 122:6
Father, please bless Jerusalem with peace! Protect them and draw Jewish men and women to yourself. Reveal yourself as their Messiah. In Jesus' name, Amen.
