We are not dust eaters...

When cowboys ride at the back of the herd, they're eating dust.  Those cows kick up a lot of it--which is why cowboys wear kerchiefs over their faces.  Bandannas weren't just meant for bank robbers to hide their mugs...those bandannas had a more important purpose.

We are not dust eaters. That was the curse placed on Satan. Man wasn't cursed; he was just given severe consequences for his sin--death. Recently, I heard Dr. Barry Lenhardt say the dust the serpent eats is man's flesh--or sin (e.g. man was created out of the dust of the ground). In Genesis 3, Satan is a serpent. But by Revelation 12, he's morphed into a dragon...because of all the dust he's eaten.

When people stir up dust, we don't have to eat it. Romans tells us to avoid the flesh--instead, we are to walk in the Spirit.  So when we're on the trail ride of life and faced with the dust of flesh, we need to ride ahead of the herd and start walking in the Spirit.  The air is so much cleaner there!  It's so easy to get caught up in negative attitudes, gossip, anger, or maligning others.  But we were never intended to eat that kind of dust.  We were created to rise above where we are already seated in heavenly places!

God gave us something different to eat: the fruit of the Spirit which includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control.

...and that's a whole lot more palatable than dust.

"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus." Ephesians 2:6-7
