We have definitely entered the holiday-giving season! Praise God for all those people who are bringing food to Living Water!! I'm sincere in saying that. It's going to help so many people. But seriously....I didn't sit down once today!! It's a good problem to have.
My question to you...just because I'm nosy and I've been speaking on this subject since I got off work:
What motivates you to give? (Besides Jesus, obeying the Word and all those godly answers. ha!)

Sometimes, it's the season.... Not wanting a family or child to not have a gift. It breaks my heart for that child who listens to the conversations all around them of other children talking about what Santa brought them and they have nothing to share. I can't imagine a Dad or Mom having to put their children to bed hungry and I am very thankful for the annual holiday food drives, but even more for the work you are involved in where those needs are met regularly. I work in a public office and I am in a good spot to see where there are needs. And our little community is very good at taking care of others.
What motivates you Becky? I would have to also say that my daughter is a motivation to me. She probably has the biggest heart of anyone I know. She is a doer, unlike myself, who plans to wants to......
Well, if it's giving a gift, what motivates me is getting to see the look on someone's face when they open what I got them--and I know they are going to love it. You may not remember this, but I sure do--you are the one that taught me the importance of not just giving a gift, but giving a GOOD gift. I have now always been VERY intentional when it comes to picking gifts. I love to give gifts!! Seeing a big need get met always motivates me to give--I love when people work together to accomplish something big. Plus, it's always good just to take your eyes off yourself!
Giving is a great example to our kids to show them that all we have belongs to God, and it is something that is so deeply important to my husband. The unexpected blessings are the best kind! Sometimes you never know how giving impacted someone, but your heart feels so lifted that you honored God in giving. I saw a Max Lucado quote yesterday, something about 'when you do something well and do it all of the time, you pop the buttons on God's vest'. Not exactly worded that way, but the sentiment anyway.
We are doing the Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box with Hudson--that is FUN!!
What motivates me to give...Hmmmm.
It's just fun. Knowing that I have helped someone not struggle or stress or worry about something for even a few minutes is just one of the most awesome feelings.
I can't help but think that God gave me SOOO much and let horrible things happen for me to have SOO much for a reason and the thought of wasting what he gave me on something stupid kinda frightens me a little. So maybe fear is a little bit of motivator, too.
Seeing a real need is my motivation...however, sometimes I do like to not meet a NEED but a WANT. I think sometimes when someone has needed help for awhile, getting something "fun" means a lot to them because they can't afford to splurgle even on little" things.
Remembering how good it felt when I was in need and people CARED enough to help me...I think that is what motivates me...just paying it forward...and the MORE I give, the MORE I want to give!!
